£1000 Prize at Gurston Down Hillclimb

Yup, you read that right! This year at the Gurston Down Spire FM Race Day (July 22nd) £1,000 will be won by a competitor.

This will be by far and away the largest cash prize in British Hillclimbing for many years.

The prize will be won by the driver who does the best of the following during the meeting:

  • Breaks their class record by the largest margin
  • Gets closest to their class record

So one way or another someone will be going home with £1,000 in their pocket.

The meeting is a round of the TTC Group Midland Hillclimb Championship and the Gates of Brockenhurst Gurston Championship - so there should be some great drivers fighting it out for the prize.

Key technical points for you. Only class runs count – so this is excluding practice runs and run offs. Contenders in the following will ALL be entered into the £1,000 competition:

  • ALL registered contenders of the TTC Group Midland Hillclimb Championship
  • fully paid up members of the BARC (SW Centre) as at June 22nd 2012

The Class Records that form the benchmark of this competition will the ones that stand on Sunday 24th June 2012. That’s the last event at Gurston before the Spire FM Race Day.

Competition runs from 10.30 on Sunday morning, practice from 8.30. Admission £6 Saturday, £10 Sunday. Accompanied under 14s free, free parking.

It’s going to make for a fascinating weekend – especially as the British Championship are in Guernsey on the Saturday, so we’re unlikely to see the fastest cars in the country there. I can see an awful lot of number crunching happening in the run up to the weekend and at the event itself – best go and find my calculator!

Update 23/4/12:

  • See Doug’s comment below about entries and the records that’ll need to be beaten.
  • There will also be a trophy awarded “The Tony Marsh Memorial Trophy”
  • The weekend will be called “The Tony Marsh Memorial Weekend”

Just a correction in the Press release. Class records will be from the 24th June
meeting , not the 22nd which is the closing date for entries, sorry our fault .
Priority for entries will be given to Full paid up BARC SW members OR TTC Midland Hillclimb
Championship entrants and only these 2 groups are eligable for the prize as long as there is and excisting class record.
