2012 SHC Awards – Event of the Year

To celebrate the end of speedhillclimb.com’s second full year of existence, we have decided to review the year and recognise some of the stunning performances we have seen on the hills over the 2012 season.

The prizes are purely for bragging rights in the 2013 paddock, but nevertheless over the last few days of the year we will be announcing the winners of the 2013 speedhillclimb.com Awards!

The 5th of our awards will be presented for the ‘Event of the Year’:

We have been lucky to have had several incredible events this year, at both National, Regional and Club levels.

For on-track drama and off-track relaxation, it is hard to top the Bouley Bay, Jersey round of the British Hillclimb Championship. Great fun, in a great setting and an amazing result for the GWR Raptor team made us all remember why hillclimbing is such a fantastic sport to be involved with.

The BHC title decider at Loton Park was a fantastic event (unless you were driving a V6 Gould of course), with a cracking crowd full of familiar faces who had come to see a new and very popular winner crowned as champion.

But the award, for the innovative idea of partnering with a major local media outlet AND offering a huge cash prize which was available for all to win, must go to Doug Auld and all at the BARC (SW Region) for the Spire FM Race Day at Gurston Down. This event, which was run as a round of the Midland Hillclimb Championship as well as the Gurston Down series saw masses of spectators, a huge entry and glorious weather combine to produce the event of the season by a mile.

Well done to Doug, Webbo, Dee and all the other hard-workers at BARC SW, we’ll be there in 2013 to see if you can do it all again!

Check back tomorrow for the big one, Driver of the Year.
