2013 Champion Crowned

After a season long battle with reigning champion Trevor Willis, a third place finish in the opening Top 12 Run Off at Doune Hillclimb in Scotland on Sunday saw Scott Moran confirmed as British Hillclimb Champion for the fourth time in his career.

Scott Moran claimed his fourth BHC crown at Doune on Sunday

Willis, who took his first title in 2012 with an OMS 25 chassis, fought to the very end with his new for 2013 OMS 28 but had to give best to the smaller and nimbler DJ Firehawk of Alex Summers in the Run Off when he needed a win to keep his challenge going. Moran followed Willis home with a third place finish to take his points total beyond reach.

Scott, who has used the Gould-NME GR61X for all of his BHC titles, claimed his first victories in 2008 & 2009, coming out on top of a pair of mighty scraps with fellow Gould-NME driver Martin Groves. After Groves claimed one back in 2010, Moran beat his Father Roger to the crown in 2011 and was determined to get his fourth career win on the board this year.

The seventeen Top 12 Run Off wins for Scott this year, especially the seven straight wins through May and June as Willis dialled in his new car, meant that he was always in the driving seat of the series.

“I am delighted, and very relieved, to have it wrapped up” Scott told us after that morning Run Off and the confirmation that his points total was beyond reach, “and it is great to be able to go to my home hill at Loton in a fortnight with no pressure.”

Of course hillclimbing is very much a family sport, and this was also a win greatly celebrated by Scott’s Wife Deb and Son Ollie, as well as his parents Roger and Helen, all of whom commit a lot to a successful championship challenge.

Very well done Scott, and all of the family and team on this cracking win!
