Brayspeed Update

After several years filming Speed Hillclimbing across the UK, cumlinating in coverage of the British Hillclimb Championship on Motors TV during 2008 & 2009, Brayspeed unfortunately had to withdraw from hillclimbing due to a lack of funding.

Tony Bray filming at Shelsley Walsh, August 2009

Every since his weekends became free again, producer extraordinaire Tony Bray has spent his time trying to encourage the next generation of motorsport enthusiast into the sport. Tony started a slotcar racing club for teenagers and overgrown teenagers in his garden shed near Southampton.

Using the small but consistant revenue stream from the ongoing sales of Brayspeed’s Hillclimb DVDs, Tony has managed to fund an extensive rebuild of the shed, and combined this with the building of a bespoke, wooden board track and integrated electronic timing & scoring system.

Slot Cars on Track

The Saturday night of the Gurston Down BHC round saw the official launch of the new track and a few hillclimb folk went along to support Tony, including Simon Marsh, Jerry Sturman, Miss Admin & Mr Editor!

Tony has worked incredibly hard to get this set-up up and running. It is a stunning layout, with the 75ft track being covered in about 4secs by the fast boys!

75ft Wooden Board Track

There was an ex. Brayspeed grudge-match underway on the Saturday night between Jerry Sturman and myself as well, with a bacon sarnie up for grabs for the winner. We won’t go into the results of that here though, mainly because it wouldn’t be fair to Jerry!

Later in the summer Tony Bray will be taking his slotcar track on the road to events and shows, so keep an eye out for it at a hillclimb near you. Great job Tone, and thanks for the fun!
