BTCC Star Competes at Gurston!

British Touring Car Championship leading light Matt Neal is to compete at Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb on Sunday April 27th to help with the venue’s celebration of its 300th meeting! Honda Racing are bringing along a Racing Jazz for him to compete in the Chairman’s Invitation class alongside Honda’s Alyn James, who will run in a Civic Endurance racer.

Tiff Needell was the last BTCC driver to compete at Gurston Down back in 2011.


Former triple BTCC champion and four times Independent Drivers champion Matt Neal is more used to driving his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Tourer this year, having collected three podium places so far in the 2014 Championship in which Neal, now a veteran of 500 BTCC races, currently lies fifth overall. However, the compact and nimble Honda Jazz will likely be much better suited to the narrow confines and tight corners of Gurston!

What do British Hillclimb Champions do during the off-season? Over the years there have been many extra-curricular activities amongst the top runners in speed hillclimbing as the competitive edge of the drivers continues to rise to surface, despite the 6 month gap in their motorsport.

Time for a special Formula 1 based Film Night tonight. As winter testing for the Formula 1 World Championship concludes at the Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain this evening, we thought that we should have a look at some of the rich history of motorsports premier category.

Possibly the most respected team on the grid is Williams F1, known to most fans of the sport as Williams Grand Prix Engineering (the title of the team during their heyday in the 1980s). Even if you are a fan of another team, most people would probably name the family run team from Grove in Oxfordshire as their second favourite team. So let’s have a look at a series of films celebrating the rich history of the team which has so far claimed 7 F1 World Drivers Championship titles, and look set to have a bit of a renaissance during 2014 if testing times are anything to go on.

This weeks installment of the Film Night is a pretty special one. Throughout this series, which has run over the past couple of years, we have featured films from professional motorsport covering amazing films or topical subjects.

For the latest chapter however, we will have a look at our very own sport of Speed Hillclimbing. In recent years we have celebrated the promotion and entertainment that our sport has been granted by TV shows producing sections of their programs looking at our dramatic discipline of motorsport. Whist becoming ever more frequent, this is not a new trend so let’s have a look back at some of the hillclimbing films produced over the past couple of decades.
