Cross’ Curborough Cruise!

A couple of weeks ago one of the younger members of the hillclimb family had a baptism of fire as he took a single-seater for a spin for the first time.

Young Ben Cross might still be at school, but thanks to a very enthusiastic Father and some very generous family friends, he got to enjoy a very cool day at Curborough Sprint Track during a midweek test session.

The Summers family, who many drivers are indebted to for letting them have their first single-seater drive, loaned their Van Diemen RF80 Formula Ford to the Cross’ so that Ben could enjoy a few pressure-free laps of the track at a private test.

Whilst he may be young, Ben certainly has a bit of driving experience behind him having been participating in the Formula 1000 rally series during 2013 and also having tested a Caterham road-sports car in recent months.

Check out this youtube video to see how Ben got on in the car on the day.

Great stuff Ben, it looks like you dealt with some very difficult conditions very well, hopefully this is a clue as to your 2014 competition plans!?

You may also notice that several other cars are visible in the background of this video. We have heard that the test was a ‘DJ day’ with Alex Summers, Ash Mason and Richard Hollingworth bringing their Firehawks along for some winter development work.
