Goods News for Barbon

Over the weekend we received some very exciting news about one of our favourite hillclimb venues in the UK.

Mike Dean Barbon Manor

Mike Dean sends the sparks flying at Barbon (thanks to Steve Wilkinson)

The short, but fast and very spectacular Barbon Manor hillclimb, near Kirkby Lonsdale on the edge of the Lake District, is the most unspoilt of all the events on the British Hillclimb Championship calendar. The hill is bumpy and unforgiving, the paddock is very hardwork for the drivers & crews to negotiate, and the weather can be somewhat random. But the helpful organisers, enthusiastic & knowledgable spectators and of course the brilliant Barbon Arms pub on the Friday night make this placeĀ a must visit venue.

We have just had word that there are some changes in store at the short, but perfectly-formed hill.

Changes are announced to the organisation of Barbon Hillclimb, which will continue to host a Round of the MSA Hillclimb Championship on 11th May and the Clubman event on 15th June.

The popular events have been organised by Westmorland Motor Club since they first took place over 60 years ago. Recent decisions by WMC to concentrate on off-road motorcycle sport resulted in discussions being held with Liverpool Motor Club and Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club, both Clubs having been closely associated with the events for the past 5 years in providing Officials and Administrative support.

Agreement has now been reached to enable both events at Barbon, in May and June, to continue with Liverpool Motor Club promoting the events ably assisted by Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club and several local Officials who have been involved with the event for many years.

Regulations for both events will shortly be available via the event’s new website www.barbonhillclimb.co.uk .

Although the promoting Club will have changed, the organisation and staffing of the event will remain the same with the same familiar faces running the events on the day, and Competitors and Spectators can be assured that the events at Barbon will retain their unique flavour and challenge.

Great to hear that the future of the venue seems to be secure, hopefully it will be the start of a long and fruitful partnership between the two clubs at this cracking hill.
