Gurston Weekend – The Run Offs

Tom New was the star of the Run Offs in fantastic conditions at Gurston Down in Wiltshire last weekend as he took the third victory of his career, but Scott Moran extended his BHC points lead with  a win and a second.

Reigning Champ Scott Moran took his 5th win in a row in the first Run Off, but despite qualifying fastest for the second shoot-out he couldn’t match the pace of Tom New as the Gould GR55 driver stormed to his second win at his local hill. New had scored his first ever BHC win at a wet Gurston back in 2004 but this victory was on pure pace. The 26.38s run stood as FTD.

Trevor Willis used his storming pace on the lower reaches of the hill to claim third each time, the OMS now seemly improved in the high-speed stuff.

Alex Summers’ storming new 2-litre record was reinforced by an amazing fourth place in the first Run Off, he was eighth equal with the PB setting Tony Wiltshire in the second Run Off.

John Bradburn used all of his Cosworth HBs massive horsepower to take fourth second time up with a cracking 26.74s PB.

Probably the most disappointed runner was Wallace Menzies, the DJ Firestorm driver had a difficult day with a sixth and a fifth at a hill which should suit the car perfectly. Hopefully Wallace can get the car back to winning ways at Shelsley next week.

1997 Champ Roger Moran had a quiet day by his high standards with a fifth and a seventh, but this fact must demonstrate the pace and quality throughout the field.

Will Hall was well in the points again with the still developing Force WH as he pipped Moran senior by 1/100th for sixth place second time up.

Gould driver Alastair Crawford and top 1600cc runner Lee Adams scraped in each time, and Adams napped a point as he tied with that man Wilt in the first Run Off .

Close scraps were a theme throughout both Run Offs with almost everybody setting PBs in the almost perfect conditions. Check out Miss Admin’s results update for the placings and championship positions.
