Helpers Get Uren Into Run Off

There was a fairly impressive turn-around at Doune Hillclimb’s British Hillclimb Championship round the weekend before last as a team of helpers made an impressive repair job.

Force PC driver Dave Uren was ‘tyre-warmer’ at Doune as he was running before co-driver Nicola Menzies on her local hill.

In second qualifying Dave had already guaranteed himself a Run Off spot when Nicola came to the line for her shot at getting into the elite twelve. Unfortunately things went slightly wrong for Nicola on the tight confines of the lower half of the hill as she was caught out by the changeable conditions and rattled the barriers.

The ex. Will Hall car was returned to the paddock and an army of helpers, lead by Nicola’s husband Wallace and Andy Smith of DJ Racecars, descended on the car to affect the repairs.

New wishbones, uprights, nose cone and front wing were fitted in treble quick time and Uren was just able to make it out for his Run Off shot.

The car was completely un set-up and with slightly awry steering, but Dave struggled to the top of the hill and narrowly missed out on a Championship point.

Well done to all of the helpers for getting the car turned around so quickly, great stuff!
