Introducing…. Gould GR59-03!

There will be some added excitement and interest at the British Hillclimb Championship rounds at Barbon Manor in Cumbria this weekend.

Not only will the event be the BHCs only visit of the year to the North West of England, as well as the first event being run by the new combination of co-operating clubs, but there should be the debut of the most anticipated hillclimb car for years.

Back in January 2011 at the BHC Awards dinner at Chateau Impney Paul Haimes and Mr Editor exchanged secrets. Mr Editors secret was that a lot of work had begun on this very website, but Paul’s news was far more exciting. He had placed an orders for both a brand new Gould GR59 chassis and a very special turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa engine.

Now, after a long and not always easy, design, build and development process the car is complete and ready to go!

Paul, along with Pete from Gould and Geoff from Geoff Page Engines, took the car to Curborough yesterday and managed to get in some useful shakedown runs. Following a brief logistics debate after the test, the decision has been made to go to Barbon Manor today and Harewood tomorrow.

We couldn’t be at the test ourselves unfortunately, but we did manage to bribe a spy who was there into taking our camera and sending us some footage.

After the test Paul said: ” The car feels really nice, although it is very difficult to get any real feedback as we were on very old tyres, and a very basic front wing for the test, but it turns in nicely and feels good. This weekend will be about getting a set-up on the car and getting the electronic gearbox & dash dialled in.”

I am sure that everyone involved with hillclimbing will be delighted to see this neat, tidy and phenomenally quick driver back out on the hills, and will also be really looking forward to seeing this stunning machine in action soon.
