Midlands Metro Mania!

One of the most charismatic cars in the history of South West hillclimbing will be hitting the M5 this coming weekend and heading North.

The Tipadel MG Metro 6R4 TPR4100 is a very well-known car in the Westcountry following some stirring performances at venues such as Wiscombe Park, Finlake, Gurston Down and especially Longleat hillclimb of the past two decades.

We covered this car in close detail when it returned to the hills back in April of this year.

The self-styled Jovial Gents, Tim Painter and Andrew Fraser who own the former Group B car, have now decided to take the wonderful ‘jigsaw puzzle’-liveried four-wheel drive car to the World Famous Shelsley Walsh hillclimb in Worcestershire for the British Hillclimb Championship round this weekend.

This will be the first time the duo have competed on the hallowed 100 yard course for over 35 years, having previously appeared there in the late 70s in Fraser’s ex. Rob Turnbull Brabham-BDA BT35-06.

We are sure that the howling Cosworth V6 engine in the Metro will be a welcome addition to an already high-quality entry.

Also, the Jovial Gents will be taking a great interest in the pre-1971 Racing Car Class as John Green will be running a Brabham-BDA BT35 very similar to the car Painter & Fraser drove all those years ago.
