Mike’s Midland Magic

One result we appear to have missed from early last month, possibly due to the complete lack of promotion of the series (although that’s no excuse), is that the Midland Hillclimb Championship was decided at Prescott back in early September.

This ever-popular Championship which runs at Loton, Prescott, Shelsley and (from this year onwards) Gurston Down is class-based with points being awarded for class finishing positions.

Last season Audi Quattro driver Mick Harriman lead for the entire season, but had the title stolen from his grasp on the last run of the year by multiple former champion Rob Stevens and his Force sports racer.

This year there was no such drama however, former Rallycrosser Mike Turpin has led the points table for most of the year with his highly developed Mod Prod Vauxhall VX220 Turbo, and he wasn’t to be disappointed at the last turn. Mike’s stunning class win (by nearly 3 seconds!) at Prescott’s penultimate round secured the result he has been focused on this year.

Great stuff Mike, hope we will see this charismatic little car back on the hills again in 2013!
