Mr Merrick’s Magic Merlyn

Whilst visiting Tom New’s New Techniques workshop last weekend we managed to get a sneaky peak at the latest acquisition of a British Hillclimb Championship regular.

After securing 7th place in the 2011 BHC Chris Merrick announced that he was stepping down from top flight hillclimbing and had his last event in the Gould-Judd at Prescott in September.

For 2012 Chris has bought a Merlyn MK6A sports racer.

This delightful little 1960s sports racer will allow Chris to make his circuit racing debut as well as taking in some hillclimbs. Merrick said, “the best thing about this car is that it is eligable for so many events. I can race with the HSCC in the Guards Trophy or in the Masters Series, and it is also eligable for the Paul Matty classes on the hills”.

Chris admitted that the 1600cc car on treaded tyres will be a bit of a culture shock by saying, “After 10 years with Judd power this is going to take some getting used to, but I’m out to enjoy it and I’m sure I will”.

With his talent and wife Val again the crew chief, we are sure that he will have a ball!
