Opening Wiscombe

Woolbridge Motor Club held its first hillclimbs of 2013 by running their traditional late April double-header at Wiscombe Park in East Devon.

Wiscombe Park Hillclimb

In years gone by, this event would have been the second round of the British Hillclimb Championship, but since Woolbridge moved their National status event to July in hunt of better weather back in 2001, the April meeting has been a South West Championship event.

South West Hillclimb Superstar Ed Hollier continued his stunning run of form so far in 2013 by taking his tally for April to four FTDs in nine days!

Hollier hustled his beautifully built Pilbeam-Suzuki MP62 through the trees of the parkland venue to claim a narrow victory on Saturday, ahead of 1100cc Martlet-Suzuki driver Adam Steel by a narrow quarter of a second or so.

Third overall fell to 2011 Driver of the Year Mike Lee and his OMS 2000M, ahead of fellow OMS drivers Ian Tucker (CF07) and James Moore (2000M).

With Steel only playing on the Saturday, Hollier’s┬átask was little more straight forward on the second day of the weekend. A 36.18s run was enough to secure the win with Lee 1.75s back in the runner-up spot.

Former British Sprinters David & Roy Sims were third & fourth with their Ralt-Duratec and Cornishman Paul Crute rounded out the top five with his Jaguar-powered ex. Roy Lane Pilbeam MP58-01.

By all accounts the hill wasn’t in it best condition, but good organisation and competition made for a fun weekend in Devon!
