Perfect Hillclimb Gifts – for the booklover

Our third set of Hillclimb Christmas Gift ideas is all about books. If you missed our previous gift recommendations you can see them here:

But, back to hillclimb books….

Hillclimbing and SprintingFirst up is the essential (well it says so in the title) Hillclimbing and Sprinting the Essential Manual by Phil Short and Steve Wilkinson (although Amazon have missed off Wilko for some unknown reason, we can confirm he did co-author).
It is an incredibly thorough guide to the sport – covering all the necessary preparation (including a section on trailers, awnings, and motorhomes!); driver guides; hill guides and much more.
how to build motorcycle-engined racing carsAnother classic hillclimb book is Tony Pashley’s How to Build Motorcycle-engined Racing Cars from the Speedpro Series. If you know a hillclimber who likes to get their hands dirty then this the perfect gift. Tony takes you through the full process of building your own bike-engined car. With bike-engine powered cars being the top trend at the moment, it’s time to join the party.
If you’re looking for a gift for someone interested in the history of motorsport and hillclimbing then one of the following 3 may be just the thing.Tony MarshParley Books is a small publisher run by Gwyneth Wright – and they have 2 fantastic hillclimb books available. Tony Marsh the Great All-Rounder is Tony Marsh‘s autobiography, he was one of the greatest ever hillclimbers winning the British Hillclimb Championship 6 times. But his motorsport experiences were not confined to hillclimbing – this is a great read and a fascinating book.
Bodywork OptionalThe second book from Parley Books is Colin Rawlinson’s Bodywork Optional but Desirable (with a forward by Bernie Ecclestone no less!). This book tells the story of 500cc motorcar racing, right from the start through Formula 3 to the modern day.
The Shelsley Walsh StoryYou can’t pull together a collection of hillclimb book gift ideas without including something about the world famous Shelsley Walsh – so here’s Simon Taylor’s The Shelsley Walsh Story. A thorough history of the first 100 years of racing at the world famous venue.
Andy PriaulxThe very final book we’re suggesting for Christmas this year is Andy Priaulx’s Autobiography. Priaulx is a former hillclimber who is now a professional driver, so it’s a book to give any hillclimber something to aspire to!

Well, that’s our book suggestions – more coming tomorrow!
