Potential New Venue?

As you occasionally do when rummaging around aimlessly on the internet, we have recently stumbled across a little gem featuring some hillclimb history on You Tube.

David Newman HWM-Jaguar

David Newman’s wonderful ex. Phil Scragg HWM-Jaguar in the Wiscombe Paddock

This little video clip from the Classic & Sportscar You Tube channel features a very familiar hillclimb car, but also a venue which many British and Midland Championship contenders will recognise.

The car is David Newman’s stunning HWM-Jaguar, which was run in period by renowned sports-racing car hillclimber Phil Scragg, and can be seen today at hillclimbs (driven by the owner) and on the circuit (driven by former Shelsley ‘pre-war’ record holder David Morris).

Whilst the car is a wonderful piece of motorsport history, we felt that the most interesting part of this video was that the venue for this little test drive is Chateau Impney, the current venue for the MHC Awards Dinner and former venue for the BHC Awards Dinner. The hotel and grounds are now owned by well-known VSCC competitors the Spollon family, who intend create a hillclimb course within the grounds.

This is not the first we have heard of this plan, so the idea must be gathering some momentum. It would be great to see a new venue appear on the Midlands scene, we will keep you posted on developments as & when we hear of them…
