Raptor Returns

One of the most exciting cars in British Hillclimbing has found a new home in the Midlands and will be running at Midland and selected British Hillclimb Championship rounds in 2013.

Lee Adams GWR Raptor

The original GWR Raptor chassis 001 was originally built for Scottish flyer Lee Adams and claimed the Scottish Hillclimb Championship in 2010.

In 2011 the car scored a stack of BHC Run Off wins, and finished 5th overall in the Championship after some real giant-killing performances.

Unfortunately the car was damaged at the April Doune clubby meeting in early 2012 when Jos Goodyear had an off at turn one on his first weekend driving the Raptor.

Rather than rush to repair chassis 001, chassis 002 was pressed into action and Goodyear & Adams completed the 2012 season in Jos’ car.

This mega bit of kit has now been restored to full health, and updated to the latest spec, by constructor Graeme Wight Jnr and has been sold to Midland Hillclimb Championship stalwart Steve Day.

Steve has shared with Ash Mason in a variety of cars over the past few years including a Caterham, a Westfield, a visciously powerful Pilbeam MP97 and their current DJ Firehawk.

When we spoke to Steve about his new toy he said:

“I am looking forward to having a play, should be fun! It’s a great opportunity to drive a proven car. I don’t expect to be near Jos or Lee’s times (they are both top-drawer drivers after all), but I quite fancy running a small and relatively simple car and knowing I will have access to Graeme’s support at events was a big factor for me.

I’m looking to do this whilst Ash is planning to continue to develop the DJ over the next few months, he is also actually very busy with work commitments.”

Great stuff Steve, we cannot wait to see you out in the car alongside Jos in 002 during 2013!
