Return of the Jovial Gents!

One of the longest runner driver partnerships in British Hillclimbing debuted yet another new hillclimb contender at Gurston Down last weekend.

Andrew Fraser Tim Painter Porsche 911 GT3

Somerset-based duo Andrew Fraser and Tim Painter have been sharing cars since the 1970s and have competed in many different vehicles including a Brabham, a Metro 6R4, a Gould and a couple of 911s.

They still own the Metro, but with spares for the Group B car getting rarer and rarer they decided on something a bit different.

A circuit racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car was in rolled out in the paddock at Gurston, liveried in the familiar Tipadel colours of course.

The car is a 996 Cup car which was built for the 2004 UK Carrera Cup championship and driven by none other than multiple Cup Champion and GT specialist Richard Westbrook.

Despite a few teething troubles with the H-pattern gearbox, Andy & Tim enjoyed the car and interestingly say that on the hill they didn’t notice the fact that the car was left-hand drive at all, other than the fact that you get a great view of the curb at Ashes!

They are looking forward to developing the car further for the hills.
