Roche Returns

In the past couple of months it has been absolutely fantastic to see a familiar face from a few years back make a return to the British Hillclimb scene.

Irishman Pat Roche spent a couple of years taking part in the British Hillclimb Championship and the Leaders Hillclimb Championship with an OMS CF07 chassis, which he shared with Mark Goodyear.

After a massive series of bad luck with blow-ups and mechanical failures Pat mothballed the car and took a couple of years off.

The only Southern Irish driver to take part in the full series in recent years started to get itchy feet earlier this year and re-prepared the carbon-tubbed OMS-Hayabusa ready for the Craigantlet round of the BHC in Ulster.

So, after an eventful shake-down at Nutts Corner sprint course, Pat returned to the hills at Craigantlet (sharing with OMS specialist Mike Fitzsimons) where he qualified for both Run Offs and pipped Northern Irish Champion Graham Thompson to the honour of fastest Irishman on the day.

As well as his local (ish!) hill, Pat has also taken in the recent BHC events at Prescott and Doune as he prepares for a more full season in 2014.

It’s great to see you back out Pat, look forward to more of the same next year!
