Sandra Storms to Record

The final pair of events of the 2013 season at the BARC Yorkshire Centre’s Harewood Hillclimb, near Harrogate saw a couple of cracking entry lists as contenders from the Harewood Series were joined by the MG Car Club, Club Alpine Renault and Paul Matty Lotus Championships for an end of season blast.

Sandra Tomlin Pilbeam MP97

Sandra Tomlin (pictured at Prescott) was on great form with the MP97.

There was one big car present, which was the Tomlin family’s Pilbeam-Judd MP97, and the headlines for the event were dominated by the 4-litre V8 monster.

Ollie Tomlin used the mighty grunt of the ex. F1 engine to blast his way to FTD on the Saturday, ahead of local expert John Chacksfield in his OMS-Vauxhall in second and Sandra Tomlin in third sharing the Pilbeam with son Ollie.

On the Sunday the Tomlin/Jenkins clan played musical chairs and when the music stopped Ollie was sat in his sister Amy’s MX5 and Amy was in the Pilbeam!

Amy did a great job in the V8 monster with a sensible 58s run, but British Hillclimbings Glamorous Granny Sandra was the star of the show setting a new Outright Ladies Hill Record on 53.89s.

Ollie Tomlin had a great battle with Morgan Jenkins in Amy’s road-going MX5, with Morgan taking the bragging rights by 3/10ths of a second.

Steve Owen arrived at his local hill on the Sunday with the works-development OMS 28 and took a comfortable FTD, ahead of Sandra in second, Chacksfield third, Bradley Dickerson fourth in his 1100cc Jedi and Lynn Owen completed the top five overall.

It seemed to be a cracking end to the Yorkshire hillclimb season, well done to Ollie, Steve and Sandra on these great results!
