With the new season just around the corner, we thought that it was time to have a wander through the Speed Hillclimb event calendar for 2014.

This weeks installment of the Film Night is a pretty special one. Throughout this series, which has run over the past couple of years, we have featured films from professional motorsport covering amazing films or topical subjects.

For the latest chapter however, we will have a look at our very own sport of Speed Hillclimbing. In recent years we have celebrated the promotion and entertainment that our sport has been granted by TV shows producing sections of their programs looking at our dramatic discipline of motorsport. Whist becoming ever more frequent, this is not a new trend so let’s have a look back at some of the hillclimbing films produced over the past couple of decades.

BHC Season Review Part 1 – Paul Haimes

Three time former British Hillclimb Champion Scott Moran started the season as hot favourite for his fourth title. It was not to be however, as a stupendous run of results (including a well-timed pair of hill records mid-season) saw the supreme talent of Trevor Willis rise to the surface as he secured both his and prolific chassis manufacturer OMS Racing Cars first ever British Championship.

For the 2013 season the big-hitters were back again, with Scott determined to regain his title and prove that he and the Gould-NME package are still the fastest on the hills. Trevor, along with a resurgent Wallace Menzies were never going to make it easy for him though, and there was always the growing threat from the Suzuki Hayabusa powered ‘little cars’.

Haimes Hits the Hills

The Barbon Manor & Harewood British Hillclimb Championship double-header weekend saw the debut of the most eagerly anticipated new hillclimb car of 2013.

Having shaken the car down at Curborough Sprint Course a couple of days previously, Paul Haimes had returned the new Gould GR59 Turbo to Gould Engineering’s Newbury works for some final details to be completed, and for a very new development part to be fitted to the car.

There will be some added excitement and interest at the British Hillclimb Championship rounds at Barbon Manor in Cumbria this weekend.

Not only will the event be the BHCs only visit of the year to the North West of England, as well as the first event being run by the new combination of co-operating clubs, but there should be the debut of the most anticipated hillclimb car for years.
