Hollier Debuts Empire

The recent British Hillclimb Championship round at Gurston Down over the August Bank Holiday saw the debut of a new single-seater in the 1600cc Racing Car Class.

Purcell and Cannell Feel the Pressure

Whilst British and Midland Hillclimb contenders are at Prescott Hillclimb and South West Hillclimb contenders are at Wiscombe Park, the loyal band of Gurston Down Hillclimb regulars will be out for the final time this year at the Wilstshire venue.

Tom Ingram and the BTCC Toyota were a great, if brief, addition to the Harewood event.


There have been many events on the hills, and a lot of gossip as well, since we were last able to spend time typing and the Bank Holiday weekend has given us a small opportunity to play catch up. Menzies Machine Mended

One of the best aspects of the recent British Hillclimb Championship round at Harewood Hillclimb in Yorkshire was the return to competition of one of the top contenders in our sport.

The Red Rocket returned to competition at Harewood Hillclimb a couple of weeks ago.


Scottish charger Wallace Menzies, who was third overall in the Championship in 2013, has been absent from the hills since his hugely publicised tumble at Shelsley Walsh back in early June.

Midsummer Speed Fest at Gurston

As well as events at Doune and Cultra at the weekend, there was also pair of one day club events at the ever popular Gurston Down Hillclimb in Wiltshire.

The crowd pleasing Mannic-Beattie was hustled to FTD on both days by creater Nik Mann.


Saturday’s event was a round of the Association of South West Motor Clubs Hillclimb Championship, whereas Sunday featured the BARC South West Centre’s own Gurston Down Hillclimb Championship.

Tipadel Twin’s Teutonic Toy!

Two of the most familiar faces at any Gurston Down event, whether British Hillclimb Championship or club meeting, are Andrew Fraser and Tim Painter, otherwise known as ‘The Jovial Gents’.

The Tipadel Porsche is a beautifully-engineered work of art.


The Somerset-based duo have been competing together on the hills for over 35 years sharing a variety of very interesting cars, including Brabham, Gould, Metro 6R4 and in recent years several Porsche 911s.
