Potential New Venue?

As you occasionally do when rummaging around aimlessly on the internet, we have recently stumbled across a little gem featuring some hillclimb history on You Tube.

Not only will the event be the BHCs only visit of the year to the North West of England, as well as the first event being run by the new combination of co-operating clubs, but there should be the debut of the most anticipated hillclimb car for years.

British Hillclimb Championship Awards

Worcestershire’s Chateau Impney hosted the British Hillclimb Championship Awards last night.

This traditionally popular event saw even more demand for tickets this year due to Tony Fletcher’s retirement as Championship Co-ordinator. As priority for tickets was given to competitors, we were unfortunately unable to attend the event. However, ‘Our Correspondent’ has informed us that the Special Award Winners for the 2011 season are as follows:

Norrie Galbraith Award for the Best Organised BHC round – Gurston Down (BARC SW Region)

Speed Championships Trophy for Merit and Endeavour – Nicola Menzies

Moran Motorhomes Marshals Shield – Sue Howlett

Nicholson McLaren Engines Trophy for Outstanding Achievement – Lee Adams

Many congratulations to all of the winners on the evening and throughout the year. 2011 was a great season of competition, so heres to more of the same in 2012!

The First Hillclimb Wedding of the Year

We hear that Pilbeam’s long-serving mechanic Mick Howlett (Pilbeam Mick to most people) and his fiance, hillclimb marshall Sue Fletcher were married at a cermony in Bourne, Lincolnshire on Thursday.

The happy couple attended the British Hillclimb Championship Awards at Chateau Impney last night as the start of their honeymoon.

Many congratulations to you both, may you have many happy years together.

Breaking News – Lifetime Achievement Award

Although like many others we were not present at the oversubscribed British Hillclimb Championship Awards Evening at the Chateau Impney, Worcestershire last night, we have received the following information from ‘Our Correspondent’, who was the MC for the formalities of the evening:

“Last night Allan Dean-Lewis, MSA Director of  Training and Education announced that Tony Fletcher is to be given an MSA Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of over 50 years service to the sport. This is only the only the sixth ever such award. Tony will receive it at the MSA board dinner at the RAC Club in Pall Mall in March.”

Many thanks for the news Eddie, and may Chloe & I extend our warmest congratulations to Tony for this award, it is fantastic that your service to our sport has been recognised at such a high level.
