Season Catch-up Part 3

The third part of our Season Catch-up see us turn our attention to one of the most popular hills in the country, Gurston Down hillclimb, near Salisbury in Wiltshire.

BTCC Champ Matt Neal was a star attraction at Gurston Down.


As the hill was celebrating it’s 300th event over the end of April weekend, The Chairmans Invitation Class was in the program again, and as in 2011 it featured a very famous name from professional motorsport.

Jersey Bank Holiday Action

As well as the Bank Holiday event on the Channel Island of Guernsey which we have covered elsewhere, there was also an event on the neighbouring Island of Jersey.

Warwick Does It Again!

We have just spotted that, whilst the mainland is still in winter mode with just the odd test day taking place, competitive hillclimbing has already started in the Channel Islands.

The Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club ran a club hillclimb at Le Val des Terres on Easter Monday and in doing so became the first British hillclimb event of 2013.

The sound of racing engines echoing across the Wiltshire Downs on Sunday morning heralded the arrival of the 2013 Hillclimb season!

Despite snowfall causing the cancellation of test days at Harewood and Loton Park, there were no such fears for the Westcountry hill and over 60 competitors turned up to blow away the cobwebs from the winter break.

Scottish Stars!

The prestigious Scottish Hillclimb Championship will be decided at this weekend’s joint British & Scottish Championship event at Doune.

Orkney driver Garry Dickson claimed the 2011 Championship at Doune last year, but there are three different drivers in the hunt for 2012 honours.

Wiscombe Class Round-up

The records were by no means confined to the Top 12 Run Offs at Woolbridge MC’s Wiscombe Park British Championship round at the weekend. With Leaders Hillclimb Championship points up for grabs the title chasers were trying hard.

Plenty of local drivers came out to play as well, both in the Championship classes and the ‘buffer classes’ at the end of the program, and many of them pushed the National boys to the limit.
