Double Dry Doune!?

The penultimate round of the British Hillclimb Championship season took place at Doune in Scotland at the weekend and, after the record-breaking bonanza at the hill in June, miraculously this latest event was warm and sunny yet again!

As well as seeing a number of class records set over the weekend, we also crowned our 2014 British Champion. Having dominated with his usual brand of metronomic consistency and blistering pace, Ludlow driver Scott Moran claimed his fifth title, joining Martyn Griffiths and David Grace as a five times winner and just one win away from the record set by the late, great Tony Marsh.

Summers Sets Prescott Alight!

The British Hillclimb Championship sprang into life for the 2014 season at Prescott Hillclimb, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, last weekend with a cracking weekend of competition at the home of the Bugatti Owners Club.

Starting where he had left off at the end of 2013, last season’s star of the show Alex Summers claimed both British Hillclimb Championship Top 12 Run Off wins in his supercharged DJ Firehawk single-seater.

Wallace Wins!

The King of Hills, Doune Hillclimb in Scotland, opened it’s 2014 event calendar last weekend with a pair of single-day events that formed the start of the Scottish Hillclimb Championship.

Local driver Wallace Menzies took a pair of wins with the familiar DJ Firestorm single-seater, it’s Cosworth XD V8 engine freshly delivered from Cosworth Racing following it’s winter fettling.

Big OMS to get Smaller!

During a chat at the recent Autosport International Show at the Birmingham NEC, we were pleased to hear that hillclimb veteran Bob Penrose has finally sold his OMS-Cosworth having had it for sale for a couple of years.

The car was built new in 2007 and with the ex. Le Mans 4-litre Cosworth DFL powerplant in the back it was the largest engined OMS chassis ever built. Indeed, as well as it’s Endurance Racing exploits, the motor also has an illustrious history in British Speed Events as it was used by former British Sprint Champion the late Nigel Bigwood, before being used by 6-times British Hillclimb Champion Tony Marsh.

Autosport Show… Plans for Summers!

There was lots of talk at the show about the ever growing fleet of cars now owned by the Summers family and who is likely to drive them.

As well as the familiar ex. Tomlin/Jenkins OMS CF97, Alex’s DJ Firehawk and the beautiful F5000 Lola seen at Shelsley in 2012, the family have also acquired the giant-killing Force-Suzuki PT from Gary Thomas over the winter.

Return of the 1100s?

The National level 1100cc Racing Car Class should receive a welcome increase in entries for the 2013 season.
