Restored Ralt Returns

Amongst all of the stunning historic cars competing at the recent Silverstone Historic Sports Car Club event, one of the 1980s Formula 3 cars really caught our eye.

There was a Ralt RT3 car which was recognisable firstly because it was one of the most well-known F3 cars of its generation, being used by a driver who would go on to achieve big things in the sport, but also because once its first circuit career was over it went on to become a very successful speed events car.

Elan-a-like!

Whilst wandering through the paddock at HSCC Silverstone last Saturday we spotted a very familiar looking Lotus Elan.

Speed Eventers Provide Silverstone Entertainment!

Last weekend a good gaggle of the speed hillclimb paddock headed to Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire to watch a number of uphill racers take part in the final stand-alone race meeting of the Historic Sports Car Club season.

The hillclimbers competing included Chris Merrick (Merlyn/Guard Trophy race), Simon Durling (Elva/Guards Trophy race), Jon Waggitt (Lenham/Guards Trophy race), Sean McClurg (Lotus Elan/Guards Trophy race), Tony Bianchi (Brabham/Guards Trophy race) and of course circuit racing newby Alex Summers (Lola/Derek Bell Trophy race).

With quick-fire races, a huge entry, some amazing cars and a good selection of hillclimbers to cheer on it was no wonder that a large number of familiar faces from the speed event world were spotted trackside and in the paddocks at HSCC Silverstone on Saturday, including:

Summers Set for Silverstone

Anyone in the Northamptonshire area this weekend would do well to pay a visit to Silverstone Racing Circuit on Saturday as one of the top stars of British Hillclimbing is participating in his first ever circuit race at the cathedral of motorsport.

Young charger Alex Summers, who finished a remarkable fourth overall in the BHC and claimed the coveted Hillclimb Leaders Championship, will be participating in the Derek Bell Trophy race which is a part of the Historic Sports Car Club’s Finals day.

Mr Merrick’s Magic Merlyn

Whilst visiting Tom New’s New Techniques workshop last weekend we managed to get a sneaky peak at the latest acquisition of a British Hillclimb Championship regular.

After securing 7th place in the 2011 BHC Chris Merrick announced that he was stepping down from top flight hillclimbing and had his last event in the Gould-Judd at Prescott in September.
