New Pilbeams Revealed

One of the biggest names in our sport is Pilbeam Racing Designs. Mike Pilbeam’s company dominated British Hillclimbing at National level for 20 years between the mid 70s and the mid 90s, winning 17 British Hillclimb Championship titles for some of the legends of our sport including Roy Lane, Martyn Griffiths, Martin Bolsover and Andy Priaulx.

In recent years the Pilbeam marque has focused on sportscar racing on the circuits. This, combined with the massive success of the Gould composite chassis’ which have dominated the hills for the past 15 years or so, has seen the Pilbeam star shine slightly less brightly than it has in the past.

Shelsley Aston Display

The ‘Big One’ at Shelsley Walsh each August is always one of the biggest events in the hillclimb calendar and always has a large crowd, a great entry and a celebration or theme from the history of British Motorsport.

This year’s theme celebrates the 100th anniversary of that most classic of British marques, Aston Martin. The hallowed 1000 yards of Shelsley will reverberate to the sound of Astons from all ages.

Last week, as part of his annual vacation, Mr Editor took the long trek down to La Sarthe for the World’s Greatest Motor Race as a spectator. The weekend turned out to not be the usual 4 day party and race-fest due to the events of the first 15 minutes of the main event.

SHC.com Film Night 16

It’s Saturday night, and it’s time for another SHC.com Film Night!

Next weekend sees the 90th anniversary Le Mans 24 Hour Race in France and should feature a cracking scrap between the factory teams of Audi Sport and Toyota Motorsport. 20 Years ago this weekend though, all British eyes at Le Mans were focussed on the return to competition of one of the most evocative names in Le Mans history. It’s Saturday night, so it must be time for another blast of quality Motorsport TV with this weeks SHC.com Film Night.

With the provisional entry for the Le Mans 24 Hour being released last weekend and the Aston Martin Racing team launch on Tuesday, our thoughts are already turning towards the big race in June.
