Party in the Park!

The final event of the 2014 British Hillclimb Championship season took place at Loton Park in Shropshire at the weekend and provided everything that is good about our wonderful sport.

Loton Park Hillclimb

A healthy crowd enjoyed a great day at Loton Park.

A popular double winner, a fond farewell, a recently crowned champion, some hot competition, cracking commentary, relatively little damage and a very large & enthusiastic crowd combined to provide a real festival atmosphere both in the paddock and in the spectator areas.

Event Round-up…. Shelsley Walsh

Who would have predicted two years ago that a 2-litre class car would win a National Run Off, in the dry, at Shelsley Walsh?

Tom Ingram Toyota Avensis

Tom Ingram and the BTCC Toyota were a great, if brief, addition to the Harewood event.

There have been many events on the hills, and a lot of gossip as well, since we were last able to spend time typing and the Bank Holiday weekend has given us a small opportunity to play catch up. So, let’s start with a run through of what has been happening at National level over the past couple of months as well as some regional reports from correspondents…

Where’s Haimesy Been!?

Having been a noticeable absentee from hillclimb paddocks so far during 2014, former Run Off winner and double Leaders Champion Paul Haimes made a brief but welcome return to the British Hillclimb scene at Loton Park last weekend.

The Farnham-based driver had a promising year in 2013 as he developed the first turbo-charged Gould single-seater chassis into a competitive proposition. Good progress was made, but there was still a big job list for the winter.
