Hollier’s Home Run

Up until the late-1990s, the Five Clubs partnership’s traditional hillclimb weekend at Wiscombe Park in Devon was a British Hillclimb Championship round. These days the event is a double-header round of the ASWMC Hillclimb Championship, but is always a very popular weekend in the South West.

Despite other big hillcimb events across the South of England, the BHC at Prescott and then final round of Gurston Down’s season, the Five Clubs attracted a very good entry to the parkland hill.

Wonderful Werrington

This weekend we decided to give the Midland Hillclimb Championship event at Shelsley Walsh a miss and take on the long journey down to the M5 to Launceston in Cornwall for some proper club hillclimbing at Werrington Park hillclimb.

Werrington House overlooks the famous Cattle Grid.


Set in the Tamar Valley, just over the county border, this very fast parkland hill is a real challenge for competitors with some very narrow and very high-speed sections to the course. It may not be World Famous, but Werrington Park has a hardy bunch of supporters!

Satchell Claims South West Honours

The hugely popular Association of South West Motor Club’s Hillclimb Championship was decided at the final event of the season at Manor Farm, Charmouth for the second year running.

Despite narrowly missing out on the HSA Speed title, North Devon engineer Colin Satchell can console himself with an outright win in his local championship with his stunningly quick 2-litre Mod Prod Peugeot 205 GTi.

Lee puts the Manors on!

As we were passing the door while travelling along the A35 yesterday, we popped into Manor Farm Hillclimb in Charmouth, Dorset to have our first look at one of the newest hillclimb venues on the UK mainland.

The tunnel under the A35 is a unique feature of Manor Farm.


Woolbridge Motor Club, who also organise events at the nearby Wiscombe Park, run the venue at Manor Farm although other Westcountry clubs also use the facility during the year. The enthusiasm and backing that has been given to this venue saw it get awarded ‘Venue of the Year’ in the speedhillclimb.com Awards.

Hot Competition at Loton!

Hagley and District Light Car Club ran their traditional July clubby weekend on 13th & 14th of July with a pair of one-day club events at the excellent Loton Park venue in Shropshire.

Both Saturday and Sunday saw a good mix of two, three and four wheel-mounted competitors on the hill, and the stunning mid summer weather only made things even better!

Doune On-Board Action

With it ultra high-speed, claustrophobic, tree-lined ‘Tunnel’ section at the lower end of the hill, the curving blast through the Meadow and tricky East Brae and Esses section at the top, Doune Hillclimb in Scotland is undoubtedly the king of hills.
