Hollier Debuts Empire

The recent British Hillclimb Championship round at Gurston Down over the August Bank Holiday saw the debut of a new single-seater in the 1600cc Racing Car Class.

The new car rolled out of Empire’s Somerset workshop just a couple of weeks ago.

 

Following the domination of the class by the scintillating GWR Raptor in recent years new cars for the 1600cc class have been somewhat thin on the ground, but maybe that is about to change…

Event Round-up…. Craigantlet

The second and final offshore event of the championship season, at Craigantlet Hill on the outskirts of Belfast, Northern Island saw a very small entry of National runners line-up for the public road course in what can only be described as Biblical conditions…

Wonderful Werrington

This weekend we decided to give the Midland Hillclimb Championship event at Shelsley Walsh a miss and take on the long journey down to the M5 to Launceston in Cornwall for some proper club hillclimbing at Werrington Park hillclimb.

Werrington House overlooks the famous Cattle Grid.

 

Set in the Tamar Valley, just over the county border, this very fast parkland hill is a real challenge for competitors with some very narrow and very high-speed sections to the course. It may not be World Famous, but Werrington Park has a hardy bunch of supporters!

Tregrehan Targets Trainee Talent!

As regular readers will know, whilst we are fans of the entire sport, South West hillclimbing will always be a bit special for us as that is where we first fell in love with the sport.

Restored Ralt Returns

Amongst all of the stunning historic cars competing at the recent Silverstone Historic Sports Car Club event, one of the 1980s Formula 3 cars really caught our eye.

There was a Ralt RT3 car which was recognisable firstly because it was one of the most well-known F3 cars of its generation, being used by a driver who would go on to achieve big things in the sport, but also because once its first circuit career was over it went on to become a very successful speed events car.

Speed Eventers Provide Silverstone Entertainment!

Last weekend a good gaggle of the speed hillclimb paddock headed to Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire to watch a number of uphill racers take part in the final stand-alone race meeting of the Historic Sports Car Club season.

The hillclimbers competing included Chris Merrick (Merlyn/Guard Trophy race), Simon Durling (Elva/Guards Trophy race), Jon Waggitt (Lenham/Guards Trophy race), Sean McClurg (Lotus Elan/Guards Trophy race), Tony Bianchi (Brabham/Guards Trophy race) and of course circuit racing newby Alex Summers (Lola/Derek Bell Trophy race).
