Summers Sets Prescott Alight!

The British Hillclimb Championship sprang into life for the 2014 season at Prescott Hillclimb, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, last weekend with a cracking weekend of competition at the home of the Bugatti Owners Club.

Starting where he had left off at the end of 2013, last season’s star of the show Alex Summers claimed both British Hillclimb Championship Top 12 Run Off wins in his supercharged DJ Firehawk single-seater.

More MP101 Details

Hot on the heels of our post at the end of last week bringing news of the new Pilbeam chassis which have recently been unveiled, we have some more details about the hillclimb chassis which has been ordered by Mike Tregoning.

The MP101 was unveiled on the Pilbeam website last month (thanks to Mike Pilbeam)

 

The MP101, which is the first Pilbeam to have been built specifically for a motorcycle-based engine installation, is Pilbeam’s first brand new hillclimb car since 2009.

New Pilbeams Revealed

One of the biggest names in our sport is Pilbeam Racing Designs. Mike Pilbeam’s company dominated British Hillclimbing at National level for 20 years between the mid 70s and the mid 90s, winning 17 British Hillclimb Championship titles for some of the legends of our sport including Roy Lane, Martyn Griffiths, Martin Bolsover and Andy Priaulx.

In recent years the Pilbeam marque has focused on sportscar racing on the circuits. This, combined with the massive success of the Gould composite chassis’ which have dominated the hills for the past 15 years or so, has seen the Pilbeam star shine slightly less brightly than it has in the past.

Perfect Prescott

Prescott Hillclimb in Gloucestershire was the host for the final headline hillclimb event on the mainland for 2013 with a pair of one day events on 5th & 6th of October.

The competitive events ran alongside the Prescott American Autumn Classic event at the Cotswolds hill, and the contrasting sight of racing cars and fairground rides in the paddock was a bit of a shock to the system at first, but made for a fantastic family day out.

Sandra Storms to Record

The final pair of events of the 2013 season at the BARC Yorkshire Centre’s Harewood Hillclimb, near Harrogate saw a couple of cracking entry lists as contenders from the Harewood Series were joined by the MG Car Club, Club Alpine Renault and Paul Matty Lotus Championships for an end of season blast.

There was one big car present, which was the Tomlin family’s Pilbeam-Judd MP97, and the headlines for the event were dominated by the 4-litre V8 monster.

Autosport Show… Big Pilbeam Update

One of the many hillclimb & Sprint visitors to the Goodridge stand at the Autosport International Show was top British Sprinter Mike Musson.

Towards the end of 2011, Mike acquired the hairiest car on the British Hillclimb scene with the intention of taming it in the wide open spaces of the race circuits of the UK.
