Hollier’s Home Run

Up until the late-1990s, the Five Clubs partnership’s traditional hillclimb weekend at Wiscombe Park in Devon was a British Hillclimb Championship round. These days the event is a double-header round of the ASWMC Hillclimb Championship, but is always a very popular weekend in the South West.

Despite other big hillcimb events across the South of England, the BHC at Prescott and then final round of Gurston Down’s season, the Five Clubs attracted a very good entry to the parkland hill.

Event Round-up…. Wiscombe

From the Channel Islands the championship continued in the South West of the British Isles with the annual visit to the twisting, tree-lined, parkland hill of Wiscombe Park in Devon.

Hall’s weekend was nearly over before it began… Fortunately gearbox issues in P1 were easily sorted.

 

As in previous years, the Moran team chose not to compete at Wiscombe, so it was a golden opportunity for the other championship contenders to play catch-up and put pressure on Scott and Roger ahead of the series run in.

Our pre-season calendar tour of British Hillclimb Championship venues concludes today with one of the classic hills in the championship.

Wiscombe specialist Tony Wiltshire gets crossed up off the start in 2005 (thanks to Steve Wilkinson).

 

Wiscombe Park hillclimb, near Honiton in Devon, is a truly rustic venue with basic but functional facilities, cracking organisation and a seriously challenging course.

BHC Season Review Part 7 – Will Hall

No weekend break for us this week as we plough on with our driver-by-driver look back at the 2013 British Hillclimb Championship season.

BHC Season Review Part 1 – Paul Haimes

Three time former British Hillclimb Champion Scott Moran started the season as hot favourite for his fourth title. It was not to be however, as a stupendous run of results (including a well-timed pair of hill records mid-season) saw the supreme talent of Trevor Willis rise to the surface as he secured both his and prolific chassis manufacturer OMS Racing Cars first ever British Championship.

For the 2013 season the big-hitters were back again, with Scott determined to regain his title and prove that he and the Gould-NME package are still the fastest on the hills. Trevor, along with a resurgent Wallace Menzies were never going to make it easy for him though, and there was always the growing threat from the Suzuki Hayabusa powered ‘little cars’.

Events This Weekend

There are events from Devon to Scotland this weekend featuring club level, historic and National Championship competitions.

As far as the British Hillclimb Championship is concerned this weekend could well be the big one. The title race is very delicately poised and a good weekend for points leader Scott Moran could take his lead beyond the reach of defending champion Trevor Willis.
