Deryk Young

Midlands master. Deryk Young is one of the most consistent drivers on the hillclimb scene who, despite only taking in a limited program each year, is an almost permanent fixture at the lower end of the championship top ten.

Having scored runoff wins in his self-developed Dallara-Judd in the mid-2000s, he now uses an ex. Graeme Wight Jnr Gould-Judd which he shares with wife Sue.

Deryk Young Gould GR51

The ex. Wight Jnr Gould GR51B, no with Judd V8, has been Deryk’s weapon of choice for a few years now (thanks to Steve Wilkinson)

2011 Plans

Del-boy will be back inĀ 2011, the car will sporting number 9, for the usual limited program of English hills. Occasionally Deryk will share the car with his wife Sue, who holds the Ladies Hill Records at Shelsley, Loton, Prescott & Gurston.

2011 Season

By Delboy’s usual high standards he had a terrible year in 2011, failing to even qualify for a run off until Round 29 at Prescott in September. After that, he scored in three of the four rounds he participated in, but he will certainly be looking for more in 2012 with the former championship winning Gould GR51B and it’s mighty, methanol burning, 4-litre Judd V8 engine.

2012 Season

The Herefordshire based stalwart of Midlands Hillclimbing really did have a year to forget in 2012.

Del boy concentrated on the Midland Championship with the big methanol fuelled Gould GR51, but he did take in a good few British Championship rounds as well.

A pair of non-point scoring finishes at Shelsley Walsh was the best he could manage.

This very competitive driver & car combination will be wanting to put the record straight in 2013, but will daughter Carly’s debut sprint season prove to be a distraction!?
