The Midland Hillclimb Dinner

Last Saturday saw the Midland Hillclimb Championship Awards Dinner at the Hundred House Hotel, Great Whitley.

The Midland Championship is one of the most popular, friendly and hotly contested in our sport. Rounds at Shelsley, Loton & Prescott (often alongside British Hillclimb Championship events) also make it one of the most prestigious.

Having lead the series since Round 1 at Loton Park, Mick Harriman (driving his awesome Audi Sport Quattro replica) was pipped to the post by a storming record-breaking run from 3-times former champ Rob Stevens in his wheezing Force SR4 sports racer.

Third in the series table went to Rodney Eyles with the lovely Ralt RT3 which has set the pace in the Pre-1985 class this year. Rod’s 2.8l Hart 4-cylinder engined car struggled to match the class records of the Rover V8s which have occupied this class previously but he was virtually unbeatable this year.

The big winners on the night, certainly in terms of the number of awards recieved were Stevens, BHC winner Scott Moran and 2-litre find of the season Alex Summers.

More gossip that came out of the dinner will follow in the coming weeks…
