Wallace Wins!

The King of Hills, Doune Hillclimb in Scotland, opened it’s 2014 event calendar last weekend with a pair of single-day events that formed the start of the Scottish Hillclimb Championship.

Doune Hillclimb

Local driver Wallace Menzies took a pair of wins with the familiar DJ Firestorm single-seater, it’s Cosworth XD V8 engine freshly delivered from Cosworth Racing following it’s winter fettling.

Following the British Hillclimb Championship contender home on Saturday was reigning Scottish Champion Jonathan Rarity with the fully clothed MH Ghost, and Islander Garry Dickson who had a great result with his new purchase, the ex. James Blackmore OMS 25 which has replaced Garry’s Force PT in recent weeks.

One of the practice pacemakers was George Coghill Jnr with his ex. Tony Eyles British Sprint Championship winning Force chassis, which has been converted into a bike-engined car by Empire Racing Cars. George set a cracking early pace with the 1400cc car, but slipped down the order later on.

The Sunday event saw Menzies dip below the 40sec barrier and pull out nearly 2 seconds over the rest of the field as he continued to reaclimatize to the mighty grunt of the former Champcar powerplant.

A great charge by George Emmerson in his ex. Webbo/Birkbeck Dallara F301 saw the former Mallockist finish ahead of Dickson to claim the runner-up spot with a promising low 41s run.
