Wazza Wins Again!

Wazza wins again as the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club hosted their season opener on Le Val des Terres.

Sarah Gaudion OMS CF09

Sarah Gaudion was on top form again at The Terres

A warm and sunny May bank holiday Monday saw no less than 8 new class records set in the fast and superbly run event today, and many personal bests were also achieved amongst the 150 (ish) entries.

Darren Warwick, having just returned from his weekend win “en francais” at La Pommeraye was on superb form leaving the little commentator in the middle (Nigel Ozanne) gasping for breath He shot through the esses in his immaculately turned out Dallara setting a 28.19 on his last run of the day.

Sarah Gaudion once again improved her time and is now knocking on the door of being the first woman in Guernsey to post a sub 30 second run having posted a fine 30.37 today in her OMS.

‘The Voice’ had a hair-raising ride up The Terres in the club van with Sarah Gaudion!

Records were lowered across the class range starting with Zef Eisenberg who proved he must be as mad as a box of frogs as he rode his quad bike up the hill in a time of 37.67 taking back a record previously held by one of our friends from our sister Island of Jersey J

Scott Rayson (he of fame for The Wave) set a stunning new record of 30.81 in the Non-Transaxle Racing Car class in his Cool Runnings Chevvy lowering Mark King’s record by 6 hundredths of a second.

Paul Sooty Priaulx put in a fine 29.78 in the Racing Cars 601 to 1100 class lowering his previous best by a mere 2 hundredths of a second.

Steve Marquis set a new record in the Sports Libre G class of 33.90 in his Zetec power 2CV another record returning home that was previously held by a Jerseyman J J!!

2 Karters set new bench marks with young Angus Torode bringing the Junior Gearbox class record down from 35.90 to 35.65 and also Jack Le Tissier (from the famous Noel Le Tissier stable I believe) setting a new record of 31.27 In the Senior Rotax Max class.

Talking of Torode’s Tim Torode had to settle for a second place today in his class as Ian Le Messurier (one of the Dangerous Brothers) returned from his accident at the last event to post a fine 29.65 (and only .02 outside Tim’s record too).

One of the nicest things I saw today was the spirit in which John The Bunman Dunne was so complimentary when young Craig Robert took 2 hundredths of a second off his record in the Road going series Production car class up to 1600. Craig set a fabulous new time of 37.70 and is really beginning to show his talent. The Bunman was back in his BDH powered Mark 2 Escort and although he didn’t break a record today he still holds a dozen or so across the classes and clubs and remains so exciting to watch regardless of what he drives.

The only other record broken today was me (Lee Corbet) in my shopping car (Westfield) in the Road Going Specialist Production Class. I lowered my own record from 39.35 to 38.25 and am chuffed to bits about it.

Roll on the next event…..

Thanks so much to The Voice for this great report, and congratulations on that record mate!
