Weekend Club Event Round-up

Last weekend was very busy around the regions with events taking place all over the place. Here is a quick overview of the events taking place:

Le Val des Terres

FTD went to Darren Warwick who is really getting to grips with his ex. Paul Haimes Dallara-Vauxhall. Darren’s time of 29.31s was just enough to see off the challenge from Nick Saunders (Reynick-Suzuki).

Third place went to OMS driver Ian Shorto who set a cracking 29.95s time to pip Chris Guille (OMS) and Tim Torode (Mallock) to the final place on the podium.

Harewood Hillclimb

OMS-Vauxhall driver John Chacksfield took the win in the Saturday event ahead of Peter Newton (back out in a Force with Brother David after last year’s Loton shunt) and visiting Jerseyman Jason Mourant.

A damp Sunday in Yorkshire saw OMS constructor Steve Owen set FTD in the works OMS 25 on a time of 52.98s. Steve pulled out a near half second margin over Peter Newton who was chased home by Mourant, David Newton & Chacksfield.

Castle Hillclimb

Decent weather on Saturday for Camel Vale MCs 2nd double-header of the year at the Cornish hill saw local favourite Terry Graves take another Cornish FTD in his Gould Ralt on 21.96s. Ralt driver David Sims took 2nd ahead of the amazing Doug Bennett in the mad Sylva Striker. Unfortunately South West FTD machine Mike Lee had to scratch after practice due to the Hayabusa’s cam chain breaking.

Sunday started fine but soon heavy rain came in and delays caused the event to be cut to a one-run shootout. Dave Gardner braved the conditions in the Bill Chaplin built Empire-Suzuki (is this the 1st FTD for an Empire?) to narrowly beat Graves.

The earlier running sports & saloons battled for the bottom step of the podium with the quicker single-seaters. Andrew Williams hustled his Westfield up to claim the spot ahead of Chris Perry (OMS), Roy Bray (Escort Cosworth), Mike Potter (Subaru Impreza) and Den Conibear (Pulsar GTiR).
