Wild wheels from the Wild West!

Possibly the wildest bit of kit seen at Wiscombe Park at the weekend was a car which has hardly been seen outside of Cornwall before. Doug Bennett brought his completely mental Sports Libre contender to the Devonshire hill for it’s 1st event at National Championship level.

Underneath this really is a Sylva Striker!

Tavistock driver Bennett, along with his mechanic ‘carrott-crunching’ Rich, has developed this absolute beast of a car from a humble Sylva Striker spaceframe chassis into a supercharged, winged, slick-shot beauty!

The car features the Sylva chassis, but the power comes from a Pete Willis developed, supercharged, 2.3litre Honda V-Tec engine and produces well over 600bhp.

The Striker has run at a few events in Cornwall so far (not without incident either), but Doug decided that it was time to gauge himself and the car against the might of the BHC contenders at Wiscombe. Doug managed to hang on to the beast for just long enough to put in an amazing 38s run and claim the scalp of Mike Manning’s rallycross inspired 4×4 Ford Puma and win the Unlimited Sports Libre Class.

It’s an amazing bit of kit, and one which certainly gets all of Doug’s attention and more! We cannot wait to see more of it in 2011…
